Search Results explained

Once you have conducted a search, whether it be from the product search, a category search, or from our A-Z directories, you will be directed to the search results. In order for you to get the best out of our results, please take a look at how we display and arrange our products.

• When you first arrive at a search page, you will notice the following (numbers 1-6 in red)
  
  
  
  
  
  1) Firstly, when you arrive at a search page, we make sure you have your search criteria in the blue product search, and we open up the extra options if you wish to refine your search if you didn't previously.
  
  
  2) Next, you will notice the breadcrumb link, showing you exactly where you are within PriceInspector. Also, notice the link to your search options which can greatly improve your results when used.
  
  Using Search Result tabs
  
  3) The Search Tabs are the next items you will notice - this is how we divide your search to make it easier for you to best results. See below for descriptions of each tab.
  
  What are Compared and Unique Products?
  
  Compared Products
  Your search will automatically search this tab first - this tab shows all products that have comparisons - i.e. a product that is sold by 2 or more retailers. As it stands, over 15% of our product database are comparable. The majority of these products carry the manufacturer / model number and can easily be distinguished when we run our data import.
  
  
  Unique Products
  Our Unique product database is the second tab. They also contain results that match your search criteria, however we have determined that they are unique - i.e. products that are being sold by just 1 retailer. If you do not find any compared products, it will be likely that you will find excellent results behind this tab. Examples of a unique product are:
  
  - Products that carry their own store name - e.g B&Q cordless drill (this obviously is not being sold by any other retailer)
  - Products that may be the same but retailers have not named it according to the manufacturer / model name. e.g. If 2 retailers sell the Samsung LE26R74BDX and a third sells the Samsung LE26R74BDX 26inch LCD, the first 2 will be matched and show in the Compared products tab. The third will not be matched and therefore be found in our Unique Products tab.
  
  N.B. Our comparison engine matches products based on identical product names. We do not use humans to draw our comparisons, so we will be encouraging our retailers to use the common model names so that we can offer the best results. As our technology is enhanced, we hope to improve our algorithm in order to match our products more effectively. We shall also be hoping to have in-house price detectives to make comparisons to match other variations.
  
  
  Ebay Auctions
  Our third tab searches all live Ebay Auctions and displays results based on your criteria.
  
  
  Other Evidence
  Our final results tab is Other Evidence. If you have failed to find decent results within our first 3 tabs, you can choose Other Evidence - this page pulls out relevant text advertisements based on your search criteria. We use Google and Mirago for these results.
  
  As you may have noticed, we keep any advertisements away from the main area of PriceInspector. We don't try to make a couple of pence out of you by displaying adverts on every page. If you want to view adverts, click in here. If you hate adverts, stay clear of this page.
  
  
  4) You will notice that we will suggest possible categories if your search is a near match. Clicking on the link will take you to the category search
  
  
  5) The results header illustrates how many results have been found within this tab (in this case 19 Compared Products)
  
  When we display our results, we will determine whether you have found products that are a Prime Suspect or a Suspect. An explanation can be found below:
  
  Prime & Suspect Products
  
  

  Prime Suspects are products that have been identically matched by your search criteria - e.g. if you searched for a model number such as Samsung LE26R74BDX.

  Suspects are products that have near matched your search. e.g. if you searched for Samsung LCD you will get results that have Samsung AND LCD in their name (or description if you are searching by description as well).

  
  

Search Results

The Search results on PriceInspector are simple and display all of the relevant information required. (see below)

• Results always show the product image, name, description and price.
  
  
  
  - In order to view the product click the "Inspect Prices" button.
  - If you have a lot of results, you can sort by Product Name, Description, or price by clicking the blue links at the top.
