Primark first opened its first store in 1969 under the brand Penney's in Liverpool and has amassed a growth of over 195 new stores since then, with 138 in the UK, 38 in Ireland and 15 in Spain. Their acquisition of BHS sent the message out to high street fashion retailers that they are serious competition, and with a fashion label famous for imitation and inexpensive clothing, Primark have taken the recent credit crunch by storm with impressive growth figures.
It is currently ranked the 5th largest UK clothing retailer and the 2nd biggest "value clothing" retail store. Reknown for offering cheap fashion, they have won many awards and can now be found on trendy high streets such as Oxford Street in London.
Primarks main aim is on affordable Womens fashion clothing and as the recent slogan suggests "Look Good, Pay Less", they are going from strength to strength. Its not just womens clothing that is popular, with Mens jeans, suits and clothes for children being incredibly good value for money.
